Walking My Master

Kody

Walking My Master

Walking my master

requires cunning and poise

and can be an adventure

more fun than my toys

It can be quite exciting

as I try to go faster

and often rewarding

but at times, a disaster

While trying to chase

cats, squirrels and birds

that blasted leash chokes

It’s annoying and absurd

I gasp and I wheeze

and struggle to breathe

He thinks he’s the boss

when holding that lead

But I beg to differ

I’ll pull and I’ll tug

to control direction

in spite of that thug

My master’s oblivious

to the force of my pull

He follows me blindly

which I find quite cool

With his hand held device

trying to find some solution

as we wander around

for my night’s constitution

Did he bring a small bag

to pick up the prize?

And will he reward me

or just whine and cry?

It is I who dispenses

the love and affection

and ignore commands

as I fight for direction

I’m great with diversion

as I soak up the joy

panting and slobbering

I am really quite coy

With my head in the air

wagging tail and big feet

I manically migrate

my way down the street

Running this way and that

while tangled in the lead

I romp through the park

like a wild frantic steed

I’m slowed by just one thing

scratching fleas that I feel

as I search for locations

to deposit last night’s meal

My master tries pulling

the lead this way and that

down the same stupid path

that is boring and flat

But I on this night

control the tethered lead

and let my master know

that I will not concede

He thinks he’s in command

as we pass by some trees

but I’m more persistent

He reluctantly agrees

My boss lets me guide him

as I sniff everywhere

marking my territory

without a worry or care

I’m attracted to smells

like urine and cigarettes

and sometimes things happen

that my master regrets

Like chewing his cell phone

and barfing on his bed

I was sure he would sell me

or perhaps, end up dead

But for some strange reason

I seem to be enough

to keep my master happy

in spite of the bad stuff

So as long as he feeds

and takes good care of me

I’ll love and protect him

but still be… the pest I can be
